We tend to forget that Shakespeare, despite his immortal poetry, was like all of us, a mortal searching for meaning in his life and times. This talk will take the exercise of seeking meaning in Shakespeare and turn it inside out. Examining his language, plots and characters from a variety of works, we will explore Shakespeare’s efforts to seek meaning in the world he experienced. So, beyond Shakespeare the actor, the poet and the playwright, indeed beyond Shakespeare the genius, lies the man who we will call in this presentation “Shakespeare the
