Advaita
Advaita

Advaita literally means ‘not two’. The Advaita philosophy declares that in the ultimate analysis there is no difference between individual human consciousness and the universal creative consciousness and that the practical realization of this unity is possible through reason. Thus, this consciousness is One, Absolute, all pervading and infinite.
This philosophy was not initiated by any one particular authority and is not the domain of any particular religion. Rather, this concept of ‘unity in diversity’ can be found at the heart of the great philosophical and religious teachings in both east and west.
Shantananda Saraswati provides this perspective:
The advaita system has been evolved in ancient times and has been successfully worked through millennia. It is open for mankind and there is no religious implication or restriction to any religion be it Hindu, Moslem, Christian or Jewish. It is universal, least ritualistic but traditional. It has proved useful for all religions. Its goodness arises from its constitution.
The system of meditation does not clash with anything. It is designed for the spirit of man which is not bound to any religion.
In terms of how the practical application of advaita affects the individual, he says:
Everything will look fresh and full of life, all attitudes will be fresh and light, and being will be charged with mild, peaceful and lively enthusiasm so that all relationships in the play will become gentle and work may proceed. All the burdens and pressures will be lost. One will become fresh and light like a flower, so that the Self within and the Self without will be delighted simultaneously.
If advaita is accepted, involvement ceases. One watches everything as it is. The mind is not preoccupied by worries. One is free to change a situation without claim of result. One gets proper sleep and every day dawns with opportunity. Illusion is dissolved but the universal drama goes to be watched with good health and vigor.
Proof of the practical application of advaita arises from the fact that both during and upon completion of activities, peace and bliss follow without discontinuity.
Every aspect of the being becomes bright. Not only does he live under light, but he himself sheds light, and things and situations around him began to transform. Since he lives in the region of light he has no fear, because all fear originate from darkness and ignorance. He is now steady, upright, unhesitant and clear. He comes to gain a sense of his caliber and power.
Those who have love in their hearts and reason in their minds act in unison for they feed on bliss.
